Having never been an entrepreneur, I'm not sure how hard it's supposed to be. What I do know is that what I'm doing IS hard. Am I doing correctly, I have no idea. But I do what I have always done, and operate the only way I know how. By creating a plan, and working the plan. I've gotten a bit more flexible over the last 15 months as the economy has dictated, but I still believe that hard work, well done and well executed holds great rewards both personally and professionally.
Having said all that, I did find the time a couple of weeks ago to get over to Eastlake for the 2009 PGA Tour Championship and the completion of the 2009 FED EX CUP race. I can't say that I've come to embrace the PGA playoff format. I couldn't help but think of the BCS as I saw Phil and Tiger both standing on the 18th green, claiming victories and holding trophies. All I could think about was, ok, now, let's have those two play next week, winner take all.
For anyone that cares, here are my thoughts regarding the playoff format. Keep the FED EX CUP point totals for the regular season. It keeps the regular season viable. Top 125 point getters are in the playoffs. The leading point holder is the regular season champion. Now, once the playoff begin with the top 125 players, everyone is at zero. The playoffs start from scratch. Then over the next four events, points accumulate. This might encourage the top players to play in more of the playoff events. If the Tour would like the Tour Championship with be weighted with a few more points than the other playoff events, I'm fine with that. In the end, you could/should have a regular season champion and a champion of the playoffs. So then the two could play 18 holes, winner take all for a very large purse. The game would then get it's Super Bowl Sunday...which is doesn't have right now. Should a player win both the regular season and the playoffs, well then, he wins it all. Something like that could happen in the ear of Tiger, but remember, he won't be playing forever, and the likelihood of someone other than Tiger doing that on a regular basis, pretty rare.
Right now, the Tour will do just about anything Tiger asks it to do. But even he has said that he has probably passed the halfway point of his career. The Tour needs to consider the "post-Tiger" era soon.
